Istanbul, Turkey, 16-21 May 2007: Iznik Tiles
Ceramic Jewels
Iznik tiles are used extensively to decorate the walls and ceilings of
mosques and palaces in Ottoman Turkey. The interior of the Rustempasa
Mosque, perched atop a small square block of shop houses in the Spice
Bazaar, is completely covered with exquisite coloured tiles. Other
fine specimens of Iznik tiles are found in the Topkapi Palace and the
sacred Eyp Mosque, in the Golden Horn.
